Stop Being Selfless and Start Being Selfish

14 October 2016

I am mom to an adult child, nanna to a young child, daughter to my parents, sibling to my brother and sisters, aunt to my nieces and nephews, a helper or volunteer in my church and local guide at sporting events where my granddaughter participates. No where is there room for my own time and interests because I’ve established the expectation that I will be there for everyone else except for myself!

Things I've Done Right

1 October 2016

So far most of my blogs have been about things I don’t like or want to change about myself which is not that surprising – there’s a lot of room for improvement for sure! One of the things I have done very well however is to surround myself with some truly amazing and strong women.

Just Me And My Simple Life

1 October 2016

I honestly just feel that we all handle our own lives very differently and that is perfectly normal and perfectly okay. It's really all about finding what works for you and your household and sticking with that. Don’t worry if you’re not doing things the “right way”.

Calling S.O.S.

1 October 2016

My heart was breaking into tiny little pieces, bit by bit, and I resented every weeknight and weekend hour of overtime spent at the office, rather than being at home where I belonged. There was no job or career path that could steer me off course of wanting to be the kind of Mom that I knew was right for me and my family. So, at the ripe age of 30, I walked into my six-figure salary, high-profile job and QUIT.

Setting Priorities To Strike A Balance

21 September 2016

When I was thinking about this blog and what I wanted to say, the one thought that kept coming to mind was that the formula for life for a working mom includes lots of coffee and a bit (or more than a bit depending on the day) of wine. But seriously, for me, my formula for living well includes a couple key components: setting priorities, and having a great support structure.

Back To School

21 September 2016

I’m back!! No – I didn’t really go anywhere… just took a little hiatus from blogging about my craziness over the last bit of the summer. Am I new and improved since you last heard from me? Nope – not really. Same old me. I go through periods of time where I just don’t care too much about self-improvement. I’ve got a lot going for me. Fantastic friends, amazing family, health, a reliable income – what more could a girl want? Ha – where to even begin with that! Anyway, I’m doing ok. Still working too much, still haven’t become dedicated to a daily exercise regiment, still pigging out on junk food every now and then. But back-to-school always feels like a good point in time to start up some new routines so the plodding progress will continue.

Put The Right Stuff Out There

9 September 2016

Finally, about three years ago, I had an epiphany, an A-ha! Moment. Due in part to childhood experiences but also just personality, I long ago chiseled the words, “I don’t need money to be happy” into my psyche. But I think what the world was hearing was, “I don’t need money”, period.

Home Away From Home

25 August 2016

In the midst of turning forty (still hasn’t quite sunk in yet that I am forty!) it donned on me that I have now lived half of my life outside of my hometown. I came to Guelph after college in 1997 when offered a temporary job at the University of Guelph. At the time of taking that job, I had no intention of making the Royal City my new home but it has now been almost 20 years and here I remain.

Alive or Just Living?

19 August 2016

These jobs that have to be done, that help keep my life on track don’t make me feel alive. Sometimes, they make me feel wooden. Robotic. An automaton on auto-pilot. So for this Your Formula for Life, I decided to describe how I fight against that feeling of lifelessness…by setting aside, for awhile, the tasks of living and indulging wholeheartedly in feeling alive.
